Bone loss around the teeth usually caused by bacteria and the body’s defense against them.  Gingivitis (bleeding and inflammation of the gums) may be one of the symptoms you notice first.  Teeth that are shifting or loose, bad breath and pain are also common.

Periodontal disease occurs in 75% of the populations and is one of the most wide spread diseases in our time. Unfortunately when you lose bone that holds your teeth in, you can never grow it back!

Severe bone loss

The best tools to detect bone loss are periodontal screenings and X-rays.  In the X-ray above, the green line indicates approximately where the bone should be and the red outlines existing bone.
